Rateable value

Introduction

All business property has a rateable value unless it is exempt from rates. The rateable value of non-domestic property is fixed in most cases by an independent valuation officer of the Valuation Office Agency (not Ealing Council). From 1 April 2017, the rateable value of a property represents the annual open market rental values of 1 April 2015.

A general revaluation of all non-domestic properties is normally carried out every five years. The last revaluation was in 2017. Find out about the 2023 valuation.

The Valuation Office Agency (VOA) has information to assist with most enquiries:

Understanding your rateable value

Business rates are based on your property’s rateable value. The VOA maintains the Non-domestic Rating List. This includes setting the rateable values of business properties. To understand why your property has a certain rateable value, go to How business rates are calculated.
