Accidents at work

The health and safety team receives several hundred reports throughout the year on notifiable incidents relating to accidents, dangerous occurrences or occupational disease resulting from working activities.

These reports come from companies who under the Reporting of Injuries, Disease and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995 (RIDDOR) have to report certain incidents to us, or from concerned members of the public, employees, emergency services and other organisations.

Health and safety investigations
If you have had an accident at work or know someone who has suffered an injury from work activities, we are committed to investigating the matter with a view to:

  • establishing the cause
  • minimising the risk of a recurrence
  • evaluating the adequacy of health and safety arrangements
  • providing health and safety assistance, and
  • taking enforcement action where appropriate
