Civic Honours scheme

Ealing Council has launched a new Civic Honours scheme to recognise those who have made significant contributions towards making the borough a great place to live, or other notable achievements.

The Freedom of the Borough Committee is replaced by a new Civic Honours Committee with the aim of more widely recognising, celebrating and rewarding individuals’ contributions.

The council is keen to ensure that recipients of civic honours represent all of the borough’s communities and is encouraging nominations to be put forward. These nominations will be considered by the committee.

The scope of awards and ways in which individuals’ outstanding contributions may be recognised will also be expanded. In addition to Freedom of the Borough status, nominees may also be considered for the Mayor’s Award and for exceptional contributions, naming of buildings, open spaces or streets may also be considered. For nominations that identify a contribution with an impact wider than the borough, the committee may also consider proposing a national honour through the national honours process.
