Understanding retrofit and energy efficiency

The rising cost of energy has changed our relationship with energy use at home, with people looking to reduce the amount they are spending on their energy bills.

Improving the energy efficiency of our homes can bring a number of benefits, ranging from making our homes feel more comfortable in hotter and colder weather conditions, to helping to insulate us from rising prices by reducing the amount of energy we need to use to keep our homes warm.

No matter your budget or property type, we can all make energy efficiency improvements to our homes. However, it can be a daunting prospect and it is often difficult to know where to begin.

To help residents make those first steps towards retrofitting their homes, Ealing Council have produced a range of resources that provide simple, easy-to-follow, information on all things energy efficiency.

The Understanding retrofit and energy efficiency series is designed to empower residents of all knowledge levels, property types, and budgets to make well-informed decisions and impactful changes to their homes. The series is made up of:

  • Booklet 1: Beginning your retrofit journey
  • Booklet 2: Small energy efficiency measures

The council have also published two leaflets explaining concepts around retrofitting your home, and simple tips to save energy:

  • 10 Things everyone can do to reduce energy use at home
  • Energy usage at home: What is a kilowatt hour?

An energy jargon buster has also been provided.
