About the park
Islip Manor Park, a piece of the old Islip Manor Estate in Northolt, is a lovely spot for spending time with family and friends. The park boasts pretty flower beds, shrubs, and a mix of old native and non-native trees. It's home to many birds and fungi, and has grassy areas perfect for relaxing, picnicking, or playing games. Additionally, the park is part of the Dog Rose Ramble walking route, which goes from Hayes to Hillingdon through Northolt.
Wildlife value
Part of Islip Manor Park, west of the site, is managed for nature conservation and supports local wildlife. Grassland plants are allowed to grow, flower, and seed before being cut in October to provide nectar and habitats for butterflies and other insects.
The most common grasses in the meadow are:
- common bent (Agrostis capillaris)
- smaller cat's-tail (Phleum bertolonii)
- red fescue (Festuca rubra)
Herbs are generally sparse, except for creeping buttercup (Ranunculus repens).
Around the meadow, a woodland understorey has developed under horse chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum), hornbeam (Carpinus betulus), and common lime trees (Tilia x europaea).
