Stop smoking

Quitting smoking is one of the best things you can do for your health - and there is plenty of support to help you succeed.

Whether you are thinking about quitting or ready to take the first step, free tools and local services are available to guide you.

Smokefree service in the borough

If you are ready to quit smoking, our stop smoking service offers personalised, one-to-one support to help you succeed.

The service begins with a tailored 8-week quit plan, designed around your lifestyle and goals. You will meet weekly with a trained tobacco dependence specialist - either in person or remotely - who will guide you through the process. These sessions typically last around 30 minutes, with the first appointment taking a little longer to understand your needs.

As part of the programme, you will receive free nicotine replacement therapy (NRT), such as patches, gum or lozenges. The service is also vape-friendly, recognising that e-cigarettes can be a helpful quitting aid for many people.

But quitting is not just about nicotine — it is about changing habits. That is why the service also includes behavioural support, using proven techniques to help you manage cravings, cope with stress and build healthier routines.

To be eligible, you must be:

  • aged 18 or over
  • living in the borough
  • registered with a GP based in the borough

You can refer yourself through the stop smoking service website or ask your GP to refer you. Appointments are available Monday to Friday, with flexible scheduling to fit around your life.

Whether you are quitting for your health, your family or your future, this free service is here to support you every step of the way.
