Street cleansing

Council owned and maintained public highways across the borough are cleaned on a regular schedule, normally on the same day each week.

Street cleansing:
  • occurs weekly on public roads and footpaths
  • occurs in residential streets the day after waste collection (including Saturday)
  • occurs daily (from 6am-8pm) on heavy pedestrian usage areas (eg town centres)
  • can be affected/suspended in extreme weather conditions such as flooding/snowfall when emergency provisions take effect
  • includes the removal of all flytips (0-3 cubic metres in size) on the scheduled cleansing day

Street cleansing problems should be reported to the council:

  • Contact Grimebusters - our 24-hour, 7 day a week hotline for reporting cases of flytipping, graffiti and emergency cleansing*:
Tel: (020) 8825 8825 - the council will aim to take action within 24 hours

You will need to provide the following information:

  • street name and door number (where possible)
  • type of complaint (eg weeds, litter, flytipping)
  • possible offender details if related to fly tipping/littering (vehicle regulations etc)
  • location (eg public or private property)

*Emergency cleansing is where unsanitary or potentially harmful material, such as fuel spills or a dead animal is found in a public place.  It does not include standard street litter or missed refuse and recycling collections, which can both still be reported online or by calling Ealing Customer Services on (020) 8825 6000 between Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm.
