Greenford Road Toucan Crossing Proposal

This is a proposal to convert the existing zebra crossing by Daryngton Drive, to a Toucan crossing. The consultation finished on 10 September 2023.

Background

Ealing Council is seeking your views on proposals to convert the existing zebra crossing into a toucan crossing on Greenford Road (located to the north of Oldfield Primary School). A toucan crossing is a signal controlled crossing point which can be used by both pedestrians and cyclists.

This proposal is part of a wider neighbourhood programme to improve road safety by upgrading crossing facilities and reducing motor vehicle speeds along Greenford Road.

Improving the crossing facilities on Greenford Road will make it easier and safer to walk and cycle, encouraging more people to get active. This is in line with the Mayor’s Transport Strategy and Ealing’s Transport Strategy.

Proposals

  • Replacing the existing zebra crossing with a toucan crossing, which can be used by both pedestrians and cyclists
  • Widening the central island to make more space for pedestrians and cyclists waiting to cross the road
  • Introducing dropped kerbs so that cyclists can safely and conveniently enter shared use footways and use the toucan crossing
  • Extending the shared footway area to the south of Oldfield Primary School

What are the benefits of the proposals?

  • Significant improvements in journey times for buses and general traffic during the morning peak
  • Improved safety and accessibility for all road users

What impact will the proposals have?

  • To accommodate the new crossing, the permit holder parking bay outside 788 and 790 Greenford Road will be removed
  • All other parking bays will be retained
  • Access to properties on Greenford Road will not be impacted by this scheme
