Boston Road zebra crossing changes: Proposals to provide cyclist provision

This consultation is now finished. Results of this publication will be posted here when available.

Background

In 2020 the council and TfL studied Boston Road to look for long term improvements to cycle facilities. Among the findings of this study, were recommendations for improving facilities for cyclists to cross Boston Road, giving better connections between the quieter roads either side. In particular, this would improve connections to and from the towpath, Elthorne Park High School, and the new low traffic neighbourhoods (LTN). Two existing zebra crossings have been identified as suitable crossing points to be upgraded for use by cyclists as well as pedestrians, at Haslemere Avenue and Elthorne Park Road.

Description of the scheme

The following improvements are proposed at these sites:

Haslemere Avenue junction:

  • Improved connection into/out of West Ealing South low traffic neighbourhood, to towpath and High School.
  • Modification of crossing to provide parallel cycle facility; provision of shared footway areas, extension of speed table for wider crossing, wider island, signing of link to Southdown Avenue as shared path, direction signs.

Elthorne Park Road junction:

  • Improved connection to/from Elthorne Park, towpath, and with West Ealing South low traffic neighbourhood.
  • Extended raised table on road, crossing altered to parallel, footways altered with continuous footway at park entrance, and narrow kerb build-out on Elthorne Park Road.

What happens next

We recently invited residents and stakeholder groups that are directly affected by the proposals to have their say on the proposed Boston Road improvements. Feedback will be used to consider any changes that need be made and, on the decision, to go ahead.

We will use the results of the survey to inform any changes to the design of the scheme. If a decision is made to go ahead with the proposals, we will write to you before the works take place in the summer.
