There are many factors that are taken into account when assessing whether a pedestrian crossing is suitable:
- The number of pedestrians and the volume of traffic
- Accident statistics
- Pedestrian preferred route
- Closeness to junctions, bends and vehicle cross overs
- Demand for on-street parking
- Location of bus stops.
We look at each site individually, as other issues may come up, preventing a formal pedestrian crossing from being installed.
If the traffic flows are low, pedestrians may be able to comfortably cross in the gaps between vehicles, without the need for a formal crossing.
