Councillor Julian Bell, leader of Ealing Council, said: “These Londoners were going about their peaceful business, finishing their prayers and going back to their homes and I am deeply shocked and saddened by last night’s events. This was a senseless, violent and racist attack against the city’s Muslim community and my thoughts and deepest sympathies are with all of the victims.
“My thoughts are also with members of the emergency services who are being called on, once again, to deal with a distressing and violent incident.
“We must fight all forms of extremism and Ealing stands together with the community in Finsbury Park. Local police will be stepping up patrols around local mosques in Ealing to provide reassurance to our local Muslim community.”
