The government has extended its COVID Winter Grant Scheme to support the boroughs’ lowest paid families and those who have been negatively impacted by the pandemic either due to unemployment or reduced income.
The funding will help those struggling to meet the cost of food, utility bills and other essential items. We know that school holidays can be a particularly challenging time for families so anyone with children eligible for benefits related free school meals will receive payments to help.
Payments will be made in the form of supermarket vouchers and will be provided ahead of the Easter break.
A company called Blackhawk Network are administering the voucher scheme for Ealing Council.
Eligible families will be written to either by email or post with details about how to redeem their vouchers.
Outline of the support available
Families eligible for benefits related free school meals
- March payment: £30 per eligible pupil to cover the Easter holiday.
Families with children under five who are on low incomes. (Families will be identified using the council tax support and housing benefits databases.)

Other support available
In addition to the vouchers to support families, there is more help available.
