This consultation was open until 19 April 2019.
Over the last few years a number of parking counts were carried out across the borough with the purpose of identifying areas with high volumes of parking. The information collected from these counts, was used to establish our programme of consultation for controlled parking which aimed to to see whether residents would like controlled parking introduced in their streets.
The survey of the Hanwell town centre concluded that many roads in the area were heavily parked and could benefit from a controlled parking zone (CPZ). That survey identified a core area of parking concern, where the highest volumes of parking were recorded, which would be the primary focus of the consultation. However in recognition of the possible impact of further parking displacement, the council also consulted residents in surrounding roads – referred to as the ‘outer area’ during the consultation.
What you said
There was a 10% response rate from the 'core area' with the majority of those respondents (89%) agreeing with the proposal to introduce a CPZ to the core area. There was a similar response rate from the 'outer area' (12%) with 60% of those respondents agreeing with the proposal to also introduce a CPZ to the outer area.
The original consultation document and detailed results broken down by street are also available.
What happens next?
The results of the consultation have been considered by the Director of Environment and Leisure and the Portfolio Holder for Environment and Highways and they meet the criteria to proceed to implementation, in accordance with the council’s CPZ Policy. As a result the decision has been made to proceed to implementation.
Officers are currently preparing the detailed design of the scheme. Before implementation can commence, the council will need to carry out a 21 day statutory consultation. This involves notices being placed on lamp columns in the proposed area and the publication of the notice within the Ealing Gazette. This process provides the public with a further opportunity to comment on the proposals. All comments and objections will be considered and responded to, before any decision is made to proceed to implementation. Following this process, if a CPZ is approved for implementation, it will become operational within approximately three months.
