Sugar Smart

Sugar Smart is an nation-wide campaign that aims to help towns, cities, counties and boroughs across the UK to raise awareness and reduce consumption of sugar across all age groups.  The campaign aims to promote healthy alternatives and remove or reduce unhealthy food and drink, particularly targeting those high in sugar.

Sugar Smart is a joint campaign with the Jamie Oliver food foundation and the food charity Sustain, and aims to work with any individuals, food businesses, schools, children's groups and other organisations who wish to make a pledge to help people become Sugar Smart and make healthier, less sugary choices more accessible.

We will be supporting this work in Ealing and encouraging a range of settings to join in the campaign.

You can find out more about the campaign and how to pledge your commitment, to be Sugar Smart on the Sugar Smart UK website.

Why reduce your sugar intake

On average, adults and children over 11 years consume three times the recommended level of 'added sugars' each day. Adults and children over 11 years should consume less than 30g per day of added sugar and it should make up no more than 5% of total daily energy intake.

By reducing your sugar intake you will improve your overall health as well as reducing the likelihood of being overweight and developing illnesses linked with obesity, such as type 2 diabetes.
