Clinical waste

Clinical waste can be harmful and needs to be collected separately from the rest of your rubbish. It is usually produced from health and medical treatments.

We offer a free collection service from your home. We do not collect from businesses or care homes.

What is clinical waste

Clinical waste includes:

  • Human or animal tissue
  • Blood or bodily fluids
  • Swabs or dressings
  • Syringes, needles or other sharp objects
  • Any infectious waste.

Syringes, needles and other sharp objects need to be placed in a yellow ‘sharps’ box to prevent injury to yourself or our crew. Sharps boxes are available from your GP or pharmacy.

What is not clinical waste

If they are not infectious, incontinence pads, catheter bags and stoma bags can be double bagged and put in your normal rubbish bin.

Old or out of date medication should be taken to your local pharmacy. Do not put them in your normal rubbish bin.
