Skip licences

Introduction

You need a licence to put a skip on a public road. You don’t need one if you put the skip on private land. You can’t put a skip on the pavement.

Only an authorised skip company can apply for a skip licence, also sometimes called skip permits. They need to apply for a licence before placing a skip on a public road.

A skip licence costs £50, which is valid for 14 days from the issue date. If a skip company needs a licence for longer than 14 days, they must apply for a new one.

Report a problem with a skip

Skips that do not have a licence or break the regulations, should be reported.
