Dangerous dogs

Dangerous dogs can be any breed of dog acting in an aggressive or threatening manner towards other dogs or people - including growling, snapping and biting - and owners can be prosecuted.

The council's safer communities team is working with the police to clamp down on irresponsible dog owners. We aim to reduce the number of dogs used to threaten or intimidate people and other animals, and to reduce the number of abandoned dogs.

Residents are urged to contact the police about dog-related anti-social behaviour, helping police officers to tackle issues in specific areas as quickly as possible.

  • Keep your dog on a lead when directed to do so
  • Keep your dog out of areas in the park where they are not allowed such as children’s play areas
