What happens in an emergency?

Evacuation

Some incidents may need you to be evacuated form your home for your safety. Working with the emergency services allows for evacuation to be done efficiently and help your safety.

Friends and family

If you are evacuated, you should try to stay with friends or family. If you do, then please inform emergency services or the contact on how to contact you regarding your return home.

Rest centres

The council has the capacity to open up emergency rest centres if you have been displaced because of an emergency. Rest centres will often be opened in a public building such as community centres or schools which will act as a place of safety and provide updated information where possible.

Temporary accommodation

If you are displaced due to an emergency, some home insurance offers temporary accommodation; it is worth checking with your insurance if this is an option. If you are with a housing association or agent they have responsibility to temporarily house you.
