Consultation on the change to Ealing Council’s council tax reduction scheme

This consultation will be open until 7 November 2022.

The consultation

The council is considering making a change to its current council tax reduction (CTR) scheme from April 2023. Every effort has been made to ensure that Ealing’s CTR scheme is designed according to government guidance.

The council is proposing to increase the maximum entitlement to council tax reduction from 75% to 80% for people who fall into the lowest income band (band 1) and are not protected by the current scheme (non-protected category). This is a 5% increase in council tax reduction aimed to help with increase in the cost of living so there is less to pay towards council tax. Consultation documents cover full details of the change and the definition of non-protected category.

All other recipients of council tax reduction or pensioners will not be affected by the change.

Feedback from the public consultation will be included in a report that will be presented to our councillors who will make the final decision on the scheme. We plan to publicise details of the new scheme at the end of the year. The change will come into effect from 1 April 2023 if the proposed change is agreed.
