Licensing policy

The council’s licensing policy came into effect on 27 July 2020 and includes:

Statement of licensing policy

The statement of licensing policy is the council's policy for licensing and regulating businesses where there is the sale of alcohol, regulated entertainment or late night refreshments. This generally covers businesses such as pubs, clubs, restaurants, hotels, off licenses and late night food takeaways. The statement gives guidance for new applicants and existing premises licence holders, as well as defining how the council exercises its functions as a licensing authority.

Statement of gambling licensing policy

The statement of gambling licensing policy defines how the council decides on applications for premises licences for betting offices, bingo clubs, adult gaming centres and licensed premises. The statement also sets out the council’s responsibilities for administering 'temporary use notices' and 'occasional use notices' and registering small society lotteries.

Sex establishment licensing policy

The council’s sex establishment licensing policy defines how the council will make decisions on the licensing of sexual entertainment venues or sex establishments and gives advice for licence applicants.
