Common Assessment Framework training
The CAF training is provided on three levels, as follows:
1.
Using the Common Assessment Framework (full day
sessions)
A course for those practitioners who have responsibility for
initiating and contributing to the CAF process and therefore may
undertake the role of lead professional.
People who should take this course include frontline practitioners involved in the Common Assessment Framework. If you are unsure whether it is applicable to you please discuss this with your line manager or contact one of the ECM Development Officers .
Learning outcomes:
-
Understand the benefits of Common Assessment, the potential barriers to its implementation and how we can overcome them
-
Be able to use the Common Assessment – and identify when it might be appropriate and when it would not
-
Understand and use the processes involved in the Common Assessment Framework
-
Apply good practice in assessment across agencies, especially in the positive engagement of service users
-
Understand the content of the Pre-Assessment Checklist and the Common Assessment form and know what makes a well-completed assessment.
-
Understand the role and responsibilities of a lead professional and how they relate to the Common Assessment Framework
2. Lead professional role and information sharing (half day workshops)
Information sharing
This session is aimed at practitioners and managers who in
practice need to share information about children, young people and
their families. It explores good practice in information sharing
and covers when and how information can be shared legally and
professionally in order to achieve improved outcomes.
This session is particularly useful to support early intervention and preventative work where decisions about information sharing may be less clear than in safeguarding or child protection situations. The session will also cover confidentiality and consent and how to decide whether or not to share information.
The lead professional in Ealing
The lead professional is the practitioner who takes
the lead to co-ordinate provision, when as a result of a common
assessment, a range of services are involved with a child or family
and an integrated response is required. This person also acts as
the single point of contact for the child and family. This session
is for those who are or will be lead professionals in Ealing. The
session explores the tasks involved, the skills required to be a
lead professional, workload implications and management support for
the role.
3.
Integrated working awareness (30 minute to
one-hour sessions)
A presentation for all staff who need to know about the CAF
(especially those who may request/initiate CAFs), but may not
directly undertake the CAF assessment and/ or complete the CAF.
Learning Outcomes:
-
Understand reason and purpose for a Common assessment Framework (CAF)
-
Understand how CAF will lead to better outcomes for children, young people and their families, and is part of Integrated Working locally and more widely within Ealing.
-
Be familiar with the CAF form and process
The Integrated Working Awareness sessions are arranged on a needs basis. Please contact the appropriate ECM Development Officer if you’re interested in having one at your work-place (details below).
