The London Mela

Sunday 16 August 2009
12-8pm

Gunnersbury Park

Europe’s largest celebration of South Asian inspired culture returns to Gunnersbury Park this year with a bang on Sunday, 16 August.

The Mela is a free event, boasting a wide range of spectacular performances across eight zones.

The BBC Asian Network main stage this year features Apache Indian among the headliners, with his ever popular unique brand of highly eclectic Ragga informed by the Bhangra style of his East Indian heritage.

Navin Kundra makes an overdue appearance with his energetic mash up of English, Punjabi and Hindi and Outlandish from Denmark will blow you away with their multicultural hip-hop experience.

There will be the classical stage with the community area and Magic Mela, in association with Emergency Exit Arts, will once again provide high quality children’s entertainment with storytelling, music and workshops for kids of all ages this year inspired by water.

New for this year is the Doosra stage, which showcases new talent along side established alternative musicians. This year we have Jalebee Cartel and Poetic Pilgrimage among many others. The BBC’s Asian network mix tent will be bigger than ever with Dj’s from home and across the world.

There will be circus acts with street arts, dance, visual arts and comedy.

The Food markets are the envy of all with gastronomic delights from across South Asia and indeed the rest of the world and other markets selling a cornucopia of goods.

A fantastic day out for all the family.
