Collection of bulky items (special collections)

You can request a special collection if you wish to dispose of items that are too large or heavy for ordinary household waste collection. Up to eight individual items can be accepted in a single collection for £20.

Collections will be carried out within five working days of your payment being received by the council, or you may choose an appointment time on a first come first served basis. You will be given the choice of a morning or afternoon collection (Monday to Friday).

We collect fridges and freezers for free.

Please note: The council only collects household fridges/freezers from domestic properties.  Free collection does not apply to commercial fridges/freezers.

By law, most electrical goods retailers will arrange for broken or unwanted appliances to be collected when a replacement has been purchased. We advise you speak with them first and check that they offer this service.

Items must be available for collection from the front, side or rear of properties and accessible at all times.

An inspector will visit and provide an individual quotation for collection of over eight items, or loose waste eg waste that is too bulky to put into bags.
