The Connexions centres are the main contact points for
Connexions (the Youth and Connexions Service is Ealing Council's
provider of Connexions services). Most of the Youth and Connexions
Service's youth workers are also Connexions personal advisers,
providing individual support to young people and linked to schools.

Crime project
Youth worker addresses behaviour management through group
work and workshops around crime prevention and awareness of
anti-social behaviour through group work and workshops in schools
and with the voluntary sector.

Disability project
The disability project provides a range of sessions and
activities for young people with disabilities who live in or attend
school/college in Ealing. Currently, most attendees are young
people with MLD, autism and Aspergers. In a few months time
sessions will be offered to young people with physical
disabilities. The groundwork for this is being done via offering
'taster' sessions within schools.

Duke of Edinburgh's Award
The scheme is run in partnership with the voluntary sector,
supporting young people in taking part and completing activities to
achieve bronze, silver and gold awards. The programme as a whole
enables young people to learn new skills and meet challenges, while
the expedition section requires teamwork and taking responsibility

Ealing youth counselling and information service
(EYCIS)
EYCIS offers a free and confidential counselling service to
young people aged 14-25. Referrals to the service come from
in-house provision and other agencies as well as through
self-referral. EYCIS also operates a one-to-one counselling service
in most high schools across the borough.

Estates initiative
The estates initiative is a partnership project between the
Youth and Connexions Service and Ealing Homes to provide youth
clubs on five targeted estates across the borough. The estates
initiative work is focused and targeted at young people as part of
interventions aiming to reduce anti-social behaviour. Each of the
five locations offer a different programme of activities and
facilities.

Health project
The health project focuses on healthy living, substance use
and misuse and sexual health including teenage pregnancy.

Horizons Education and Achievement Centre
The Horizons education and achievement centre is part of
Ealing social services leaving care programme in partnership with
Ealing youth and connexions service. The centre offers young people
in care and those who have recently left care a 'safe space' where
they can share experiences, seek information, help and advice in
order to plan and prepare for independent living; the centre
promotes social inclusion through programmes of social education,
personal development and recreational activities in an informal and
relaxed environment.

Neighbourhood work
The Youth and Connexions Service have developed a new
approach to the delivery of youth work in two areas in the borough,
Acton and Northolt. The aim of the work is to increase young
people's access to activities and services. The role of the
neighbourhood worker is to link with voluntary/community groups,
schools and other organisations, both statutory and voluntary, that
are in touch with young people age 13 to 19 in order to support
existing projects and also develop new initiatives in line with
young people's identified needs.

New arrivals
The new arrivals project provides guidance and advice to
young refugees and asylum seekers and supports them in gaining
access to education, training and employment.

Participation project
The participation project leads in developing the Youth and
Connexions Service's work in participation and involving young
people in the local democratic process. It has worked and supported
young people to develop Ealing Youth Action, the borough. Through
their involvement, young people develop their presentation skills
and self-awareness, and gain experience in debates/discussion,
campaigns and public speaking.

Positive activities for young people (PAYP)
The PAYP project provides exciting and challenging holiday
and weekend provision including residentials, multi-use games area
sessions in the summer and indoor sports in the winter as well as
concentrated activities for the six week summer holidays and half
term breaks. The purpose of the project is to achieve crime
diversion, community cohesion and social inclusion by bringing
together, through referral, young people who are 'hard to reach'.
It provides information, advice and support to young people around
education, employment and training.

Voluntary sector
The Youth and Connexions Service works in partnership with
voluntary sector organisations/groups to deliver effective services
across the borough, utilising the skills and expertise of these
voluntary/community groups. For example YWCA London West delivers
workshops around teenage pregnancy. Also, the service assists
voluntary sector groups that require support with their curriculum,
recording outcomes and developing accredited outcomes for young
people. In addition the service enables groups who work with young
people to use its buildings to ensure that a variety of services
are delivered throughout the day and evening.

Your Zone
Your Zone provides a safe space for young lesbian, gay and
bisexual people and those unsure of their sexual or gender identity
to meet and socialise. It runs programmes to enable young people to
develop the skills to make informed decisions and choices and
offers one-to-one information, advice and support.
