Northala Fields scoops major design award (PR 1335)

Northala Fields, which boasts spectacular views across London from the top of four conical mounds, has won a top award for its landscape architecture.

The park was announced as overall winner in the Design Over five hectares category at the Landscape Institute Awards on Thursday, 20 November, seeing off competition from other entries including the Tianjin Haihe River in North China.

The project began in 2000 with Ealing Council’s decision to transform 45 acres of derelict land. Rubble from the demolition of the original Wembley Stadium and from a number of other building sites, including the new White City shopping centre, was brought to Northala, from 2004 and used to create the mounds.

Councillor Phil Taylor, Cabinet Member for Customer and Community Services, said: “Northala Fields is one of the most exciting and significant park developments in London for many years. This award is a wonderful achievement and the design architects, Form Associates, did a great job.”

A Green Flag was also awarded to Northala Fields by The Civic Trust in recognition of its excellence in September.
