Ealing’s Central Library has opened its doors to gathering crowds, eager to catch a first glimpse of the new community facility after a £2million refurbishment.
Eager users were queuing up to be one of the first through the doors on Tuesday, 29 July, to discover their new and improved library. They quickly began trying out the new self-issue desks and were impressed with the new books, computers and helpful staff on hand to give assistance.
Olimbi Zeneli visited the library with her children Francesco, nine, and Alda, five, who were soon playing games on the new computers in the children’s zone. Mrs Zeneli said: “The library is beautiful, it’s so lovely and bright. We use the libraries quite often but will be visiting more regularly now. I found the staff so helpful, there’s always someone nearby if you need them.”
There are 20,000 new books for people to enjoy as well as 85 computers with internet access and a host of other attractions, including a teenage area equipped with an Xbox 360.
Josie Fuchs, who came to the library with daughters Lili, five, and Grace, four, was impressed with how bright and spacious the building was. She said: “It looks great and the selection of books is brilliant, it’s much better than before. The girls have been looking forward to the library opening and have already picked out a number of books to borrow.”
There is now a summer programme packed full of exciting activities for youngsters to enjoy at Ealing Central Library.
Councillor Phil Taylor, Cabinet Member for Customer and Community Services, said: “A lot of thought has gone into the new library and it has been transformed into a much brighter and more usable facility. The study facilities are wonderful and I am sure that they will be well used. It was really encouraging to see so many residents eager to see it for themselves on the opening morning.”
