Meetings to discuss future of Ealing’s libraries
Published 30 March 2011
Residents will get the chance to have their say on proposed changes to the library service at a series of meetings being held across the borough.
The council launched a six-week consultation earlier this month urging residents to go online and share their views on the future of the library service, including bringing community groups and volunteers in to help run libraries.
The council is being forced to save £65million across all of its services over the next three years following a massive reduction in the funding it receives from central government. Options to save money include exploring alternative ways of running the boroughs libraries.
The meetings will be held from 7 8.30pm on the following dates:
-
Wednesday 6 April - Perivale Primary School, Federal Rd, Perivale, UB6 7AP
-
Tuesday 12 April - William Hobbayne Centre, Lower Boston Rd, Hanwell, W7 2NP
-
Wednesday 13 April - Northfields Community Centre, 71a Northcroft Road, Ealing, W13 9SS
-
Thursday 21 April - Northolt High School, Vincent Centre, Gate B, Eastcote Lane, Northolt, UB5 4HP. Residents are asked to park at Gate A.
Councillor Kamaljit Dhindsa, cabinet member for Customer and Community Services, said: We have set up these meetings because we want to give residents a chance to give us their views about the future of the libraries service. I would urge everyone with an interest in libraries to complete the online questionnaire and come along to one of the consultation events.
More information is available on the consultation pages.
Anyone without access to a PC can fill in the questionnaire at any of the boroughs libraries or request a hard copy.
The deadline for responses to the consultation is Tuesday, 3 May.
