Current exhibition: The Northern Lights
An art exhibition by pupils from Year 3 and 5 at North Primary School
15 February – 8 March 2014
The Northern Lights is an art exhibition featuring the work of 120 students from North Primary School in Southall. Working with artist Sandie M Sutton, children from Years 3 and 5 responded to themes of colour, light, transparency and pattern in the main gallery exhibition Just Glass and Sir John Soane’s architectural legacy. Pupils learnt how architects use glass and light to create dramatic and sensory spaces within buildings, and how contemporary glassmakers re-work traditional kiln forming techniques and use new technologies to create striking glass pieces.
In the Studio are several displays of art works made by the two year groups, including light sculptures inspired by the interior worlds of Just Glass makers Julie Hayward, Joanna Waddy and Su Herbert, as well as wall-mounted, two-dimensional designs on perspex and a hanging chandelier piece inspired by Phillipa Candy’s work.
With special thanks to Natatja Bauer and the Year 3 and 5 class teachers at North Primary, artist Sandie M Sutton and PM Gallery staff Joel Bunn, Andy Owen and Katy Wallwork. This exhibition is kindly supported by Acrylidex.
