Our cultural strategy (pdf) is a five-year plan (2007-2012) for cultural activity and development in the local area; a shared vision for our local authority and our cultural partners.
The word 'culture' covers the multitude of things that we do in our leisure time including:
playing or watching sports
strolling in our parks and open spaces
visiting our museums or art galleries
using our libraries and enhancing our intellectual experiences through reading and learning
There is a growing realisation at all levels that the impact of culture goes much deeper and wider than previously believed. Culture is at the very core of the sort of lives we all want to lead, meeting our deepest needs for self-fulfilment, helping us develop social bonds and improving our physical and mental well-being.
The Department for Culture, Media and Sport acknowledge the key role councils play in providing and enabling cultural facilities, activities and opportunities to local communities. This potential to improve our very quality of life is at the heart of our new cultural strategy. It was developed in line with Ealing's community strategy to ensure community and cultural planning are integrated. The success of this strategy will be dependent on all the people in our communities joining together with us in partnership to make it happen, enhancing the quality of life in Ealing.
