Paper

  • an average household in the UK throws away 4kg of waste paper each week
  • producing recycled paper uses about 50% less energy than producing virgin paper

Glass

  • on average, every family in the UK consumes around 330 glass bottles and jars each year
  • if the average household recycled all their glass, enough energy would be saved to power a computer for five days or a 100w lightbulb for 2.5 days

Cans

  • cans are the easiest product to recycle and can be recycled again and again
  • recycling one aluminium can requires only 5% of the energy used to make it from scratch
  • recycling one tonne of steel uses 75% less energy and 40% less water than using virgin materials
