Team Ealing
What is Team Ealing?
It is made up of five
world-class, local athletes who are being backed by Ealing Council in their
quest for Olympic medals at the London 2012 Games.
The Team Ealing Ambassador Grants Scheme was started in March 2010 to provide financial support to five successful applicants in the run-up to the London 2012 Games. In return, the athletes act as sporting ambassadors and positive role models, encouraging healthy living and sports participation at schools, colleges and other local groups and venues.
They each receive a £12,500 grant, paid in instalments, to help them reach their goal. The money has been put to good use, going towards training and medical costs, as the athletes go flat-out in preparation for the Olympics.
Who are the athletes?
Boxer Hannah Beharry; Great Britain hockey players Hannah Macleod and Anne Panter; sprinter Laura Turner; and taekwondo fighter Josh Webley.
Healthy living with Team Ealing
In a three-part series in Around Ealing magazine, Hannah Macleod and Laura Turner provided their expertise to put together some simple tips for you to follow on healthy food and getting fit. It is like having your own personal trainers.
During 2011, a new cookery challenge series started in the magazine, with a local chef being challenged to prepare healthy and affordable meals using ingredients suggested by the Team Ealing athletes.
