Council priorities

The council is here to serve local residents and we want to put that at the heart of everything we do.  We have listened very carefully to what you have been telling us and are making it a priority to deliver on the things that really matter to you.

We have five priorities for the borough:

  • Making the borough safer
Through a comprehensive package of measures including creating neighbourhood enforcement teams and CCTV in crime hotspots
  • Securing public services
Investing in schools to improve standards and give parents better choices, investment in youth services to improve opportunities for young people, and by fighting to protect and develop the health services the borough needs.
  • Securing jobs and homes
Through a new partnership with local businesses and housing associations create new jobs and build 3,000 affordable homes.
  • Making the borough cleaner
Start up a 24/7 Grimebusters hotline to report local trouble-spots and get action to clear them within 24 hours, as well as boosting the council’s recycling services.
  • Delivering value for money
We want to keep council tax low and will freeze council tax for a further year. We have also frozen councillors’ allowances for the next four years.

The cabinet, the council’s main decision-making body, will help drive forward the priorities and make sure that our services are meeting your needs.
