Frequently asked questions

Fostering

Fostering is looking after children who cannot live with their own families. This can be for long or short periods of time.

These children, often brothers or sisters, may have been caught up in a family crisis and need someone to care for them. Many will return home, for others this will not be possible. Short or long-term foster carers offer a valuable service because some care and attention can really make a difference at a difficult time.

To make sure there are homes for Ealing's children we need to consistently recruit foster carers from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds. The more people that are approved as carers, the more likely it is that a good match can be found. This enables children to remain within their communities with as little disruption to their lives as possible and to help them understand their heritage and culture.

Fostering is about ordinary people like you who do extra ordinary things. Whilst raising any child can be hard work, we will be there with you at every step along the way, providing excellent training and preparation programmes and on-going assistance from our experienced support team. Ealing rewards its carers with a skills-based, career progression scheme and payments that are linked to those skills. We believe our foster carers are truly remarkable people offering children a real chance in life.

Fostering success
Of the many children placed into Ealing's care, three in five are able to return to their homes after a stay with a foster family. For others this is not possible and we will seek permanent families for them.
