This directory provides advice and details about services
provided to people living with or affected by HIV.
Services for adults
Adults living with HIV are entitled to an
assessment of their need, as well as the people who care for
them. Services they may receive following an assessment
include:
- home care services
- respite in the community or a residential home
- help in applying for grants from voluntary organisations
- referrals to voluntary agencies for counselling, support, advice, befriending and other services
- residential/nursing home care (if appropriate)
- rehabilitation
- occupational therapy assessments and equipment
- travel passes
- direct payments
Services for children and families
Parents who are HIV positive (even if their child is
negative) can receive an assessment and services from social
services. Children who are HIV positive can also receive
specialist services and advice, including:
- Home care
- Respite in the community or residential care for both parents and children
- Support with child care issues
- Playgroups
- Family support
- Referrals to voluntary agencies for specialist advice such as counselling, befriending and other support
- Short term fostering placements
- Direct payments for young people aged 16-17 living with HIV including young carers and parents of children living with HIV.

Confidentiality
All referrals are dealt with confidentially and
information will not be shared with relatives or other
professionals, without consent. The
Data Protection Act 1998 defines the rules for
processing personal information and applies to most paper records
and to computer records.

Housing related support
Ealing Council's Gateway service is responsible for
undertaking assessments to identify housing related support needs
for vulnerable clients. After the initial Gateway assessment
the Gateway officers will allocate the appropriate housing related
support service to meet the needs of the client.
The Gateway assessment is not subject to the same eligibility criteria as the social care Fair Access to Care assessment.
