Staying active: April-September 2008

Why not gather your friends together for a visit to a staying active session. These sessions are ideal for older adults and can be a great way to meet new friends whilst keeping fit and active. Activities take place at venues across the borough and newcomers are always welcome. Just turn up, pay and join in!

Regular physical activity:

It’s recommended that adults should do some form of physical activity for 30 minutes at least five times a week.

Bowls indoor/short mat bowls sessions
Short mat bowls is an ideal way to improve your bowls technique. The game is played on a 45 foot by 6 foot bowls mat. Equipment is provided at each session.

Slimnastics is suitable for men and women of all shapes and sizes. It aims to improve general fitness, shape and poise and also to achieve reasonable weight in relation to age, height and bone structure. The course will help you adapt a sensible eating pattern and improve your health and confidence to exercise at your own pace. These sessions are ideal for people who would like to lose weight and start exercising. Newcomers are always welcome.

Tennis
Tennis is a full body workout, improving flexibility, stamina, speed, strength and hand-toeye coordination. Open to all levels of ability, an LTA coach will be on hand to arrange doubles pairings and give advice. Balls provided and some equipment available to borrow, the dress code is casual, but non-marking trainers must be worn. After the session refreshments will be served in the clubhouse.
