May is Museums and Galleries Month and the theme this year is People: who are we?.
In response, PM Gallery & House is celebrating Ealing’s diverse and vibrant communities with a new exhibition of photographs created by and focusing on the people of Ealing, curated by West London based photographer, Phil Bigg.
Who Are We? aims to reflect the people who live and work in Ealing today, whilst also drawing on historic black-and-white archive images as far back as the late 19th century to provide a snapshot of the radical changes that have taken place during the last 100 years
Images of 21st century Southall and Easter celebrations at Ealing’s Polish Church will be showing alongside extraordinary and evocative images of 1950s Ruislip by local photographer George Atkins and large-scale pictures of the Somali community. Stills from the recently released feature film, I Want Candy, shot on location in Ealing are also included. The exhibition provides a remarkable portrait of everyday life in a much-changed, multifaceted London borough, once known as the 'Queen of the Suburbs' and famous for its place in film history through the Ealing Comedies.
The exhibition includes the work of professional and amateur photographers of many ages and backgrounds. It aims to provide some extraordinary answers to the question, Who Are We?.
