Taking Part: a new creative arts programme for adultsPM Gallery & House have now launched "Taking Part" a new creative arts programme for adults and young people aged 16 and above. Funded by Arts Council England, this short-term pilot aims to increase the number of adults, from all sectors of the community, who enjoy arts activities at PM.
"Taking Part" will consist of a variety of exciting free workshops, covering all artforms, which will mainly take place at PM, from May - July 2008. Workshops are being offered to educational, community, voluntary or social groups. From Fibre to Fabric
Saturday 12 July and Saturday
19 July 11am - 4pm
Textile art course
This class will be taught in the newly restored Pitzhanger
Lodge. On day 1, students will use a wet hands-on technique to
discover the unique qualities of pre dyed fleece, producing their
own fabric artwork samples from fibre. On day 2, students will use
dyes, wax resists, scrunching, bleaching and other experimental
techniques to explore the world of pattern. Textile artist and
Royal College of Art graduate, Nisha Chadha, will lead this course.
This two-day textile art course is being offered at the
promotional cost of £15 (includes all materials). To enrol on this

Summer University
This summer PM will be offering some fantastic Summer Uni
courses taught by professional artists. Courses at PM are open to
any young person between the ages of 15-19. It doesn’t matter
whether you have experience or not, everyone is made to feel
welcome!
Life Drawing
Mondays 28 July, 4 August and 11 August 10am - 3pm
Led by a professional tutor and working with a life
model, these sessions offer an excellent opportunity to build up a
portfolio of primary source materials and develop your skills.
Bottles and Cans
Sunday 3 August 11am - 4.30pm
This course will give you confidence in making
artwork from everyday materials. Using easily available plastic
bottles and cans we will explore their potential as an art material
and look at the ways in which artworks can be displayed.
Carnival!
Saturdays 2 and 9 August 10am - 3pm
This workshop introduces students to carnival arts,
including masks and sculpture. While building the structures,
students will use basic geometry, and consider shape, balance and
the properties of different materials. No experience is necessary
and all equipment and materials will be supplied. For further

Children’s Summer Workshops

PM’s summer workshops encourage children to create
artworks in response to their visit to PM Gallery & House. All
materials are supplied and everyone will complete a piece of work
to take home. Dress for mess!!!
Park Life
Thursday 7 August
10 - 12 noon (5 - 8 year olds) and 2 - 4pm (9 - 12 year
olds)
Inspired by the flora and fauna of Walpole Park,
Sun Jester will show you new techniques and tricks to create
fantastic and unique specimens of your own!
Graffiti Gallery
Thursday 14 August
10 - 12 noon (5 - 8 year olds) and 2 - 4pm (9 - 12 yearr
olds)
Use your creative skills and have fun making large
artworks inspired by Chris Bogle’s graffiti art in the Studio. This
workshop is led by artist Gina Martin.

Thursday 21 August
10 - 12 noon (5 - 8 year olds) and 2 - 4pm (9 - 12 yrea
olds)
Look up and be inspired by the wonderful ceilings and domes
of Pitzhanger Manor - House and PM Gallery. Sun Jester will show
you how to create your own artistic masterpiece from a variety of
exciting materials.
Photo Finish!
Thursday 28 August
10 - 12 noon (5 - 8 year olds) and 2 - 4pm (9 - 12 year
olds)
Photographer Marysia Lachowicz will show you how to
take your own photographs inspired by the Studio’s sports
photography exhibition. Bring something with you, which
relates to your favourite sport - football, dancing shoes or
skipping ropes!

Arts Award
PM Gallery & House is now registered as an Arts Award
Centre. The Arts Award supports young people to develop as artists
and arts leaders and is available throughout England. The Arts
Award is a nationally recognised qualification at three levels -
bronze, silver and gold.
Young people set their own arts challenges, explore local arts activities and the professional arts world, and undertake a leadership project. The award appeals to a wide range of young people aged 11-25, and can be achieved in any artform.
