Types of sheltered housing
In the description of the flats, a one-bedroom flat is a self-contained flat with a living room, one bedroom, a kitchen and a bathroom. A studio flat is smaller and self-contained with a kitchen, bathroom and bedroom-cum-living room. There are only two two-bedroom flats in one of the sheltered housing schemes.
The schemes described as sheltered housing have the following features:
- resident or community housing officer service
- pull-cords in each room to alert the help of the warden or community housing officer in an emergency; and a two-way intercom facility to speak with the warden
- common room
- a laundry (in some cases)
- a guest room (in some cases)
These schemes vary in age, design and the facilities they have, eg some do not have lifts or communal facilities.
There is a long waiting list for most schemes and when your name is added to a waiting list it does, unfortunately, not mean that an offer will definitely be made. You have a shorter wait if you are prepared to widen your choices and accept a property in any location.
