Designing sheltered housing for older people

Purpose-built sheltered housing is very similar to modern, small blocks of council flats:

There are a limited number of two-bedroom flats. This allows brothers, sisters or friends to live together; or they may be used for couples if separate bedrooms are needed for medical reasons.

The communal facilities are designed and furnished to provide a comfortable, attractive and welcome setting for tenants and relatives. The design of both individual and communal facilities reflects the cultural and religious needs of the community in the different areas of the borough.
