Handyperson plus grants (discretionary)
The handyperson plus service carries out urgently needed
repairs following a breakdown of essential fixed equipment needed
to enable vulnerable people to live in their homes in safety and
comfort. Our home improvement agency administers the scheme and
assists with all aspects of the grant process.
To qualify for the handyperson plus grant the applicant must
be:
The following conditions/limitations apply:

maximum of three visits per year
-
total grant value shall not exceed £1500 per year (except
for disabled equipment)

clients must have the power to carry out the
works
Typical works which may attract grant aid include:

minor work to enable a person to be released from
hospital

repair of stairlift, hoist or through-floor lift (provided
it’s still needed by the disabled person)
- plumbing work to enable a shower, bath, wash basin or sink to
be used (provided no other facility is available)

repair leaking water supply/waste pipes

repair water heater (provided no other facility is
available)
-
repair central heating system between November and
March
-
make electrical hazards safe (excluding appliances and
full re-wire)

reinstate gas supply to cooker, hob, gas fire (provided no
other facility is available)

insulation work not covered by Warmzone or Warmfront
schemes for over 60s (maximum grant shall not exceed
£750)
