Handyperson scheme
Handyperson grants (discretionary)
The handyperson service arranges minor jobs in the home for
elderly, disabled or otherwise vulnerable people. Our home
improvement agency administers the handyperson service and will
assist with all aspects of the grant process.
To qualify for the basic handyperson grant the applicant
must be:
The following conditions/limitations apply:

each visit is limited to 90 minutes on site
-
maximum of three visits per year
-
clients must agree to a council officer (or partner
organisation) carrying out a brief survey to identify what work
is necessary
- all materials (other than fixings and smoke/carbon monoxide
detectors) to be supplied or paid for by the client

clients must have the power or duty to carry out the
works
Typical works which may attract grant aid include:

replacing lightbulbs
-
setting thermostats/timers
-
fitting smoke/carbon monoxide alarms

unblocking sinks/basins/baths/WCs
-
putting up curtains/tracks
-
fixing down hazardous carpets, trailing electrical leads
etc
-
moving furniture around within the property (provided it
can be done by one person)

replacing: WC seats, small areas of tiling, sealant around
bath/sink

fitting grab rails, plugs and fuses
-
security and energy efficiency advice
-
initial help following hospital discharge (eg resetting
heating controls etc)
-
minor repairs to paths (to eliminate trip hazards) and
gates
