Applying for a council home

Social housing within the borough is provided by the council and by housing associations.

Ealing, like many London boroughs, has a severe shortage of homes compared with the number of people who need them. Currently we have over 17,000 applicants on our waiting list - also known as the housing register. Therefore, people are encouraged to explore alternative housing options in order to obtain suitable housing.

To apply to go on the housing register you need to complete a housing application form (pdf) or email hsgapps@ealing.gov.uk with your name and address and we will send you an application form. If you are eligible you will be given a level of priority based on your circumstances and housing needs. You will also be given a registration number which should be quoted whenever you make an enquiry about your application. Once registered, you must be prepared to actively seek a home through the system we use to allocate properties known as Locata.

Properties owned by housing associations also come through the council for allocation through Locata. Not all vacant housing association property comes through the council as the associations also have obligations to their existing tenants.
