Frequently asked questions

Protected trees

Trees may be protected under planning law by a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) or if they are located within a conservation area. A TPO makes it an offence to wilfully damage or wilfully destroy a tree without the planning authority's permission.  The council's permission is required before any works like pruning, removal or disruption to the roots can be carried out.
