Winter maintenance
Ealing has a winter maintenance plan to reduce the risk to the travelling public by the hazardous effects of snow and ice during the winter months. This plan involves spreading grit on the roads and footway when required. The decision about highway winter maintenance requirements is based on weather data provided by the meteorology office. Prevailing weather conditions are also taken into account.
The council produces a new winter maintenance plan each year and the council's consulting engineers (Mouchelparkman Ltd) are responsible for implementing the gritting plan.
Priorities
There is priority for:
- all main roads
- important bus routes
- important commuter routes
- shopping centres
- schools
- known trouble spots (including junctions)
- roads leading to hospitals, ambulance stations and fire stations
Precautions
Residents are advised to:
- never assume roads and pavements have been gritted
- take extreme care when walking or driving on the roads in winter conditions
