Street naming and numbering

Ealing Council is responsible for the naming and numbering of new or existing streets and buildings within the borough boundaries. The council carries out these functions under Section 6 of the London Building Acts (Amendment) Act 1939.

If you wish to change the name or number of an existing property, or name or number new developments, you will need to apply to us.

All new names for streets and buildings need to go through a consultation procedure that can take several weeks. It is therefore advisable to contact the council at the earliest possible stage of a proposal, preferably when building work commences, and before a name has been marketed.

Who needs to contact us
You must contact the council if you need to do any of the following:

Please note that streets will only be renamed in exceptional circumstances, usually only where specific advice has been received from the emergency services.

All approved new or amended addresses are sent on to Royal Mail, emergency services, Land Registry, Ordnance Survey, other council departments and other relevant organisations on a regular basis.

How to apply
To make an application, you need to complete the street naming and numbering application form (word). Please ensure you read the guidance notes (word) carefully before submitting the form.

Under most circumstances, you will need to submit a plan showing the external entrance to each affected property. Please contact the street naming and numbering team if you have any questions about this or any other aspect of the application process.

There is no charge for this service.
