The cycling action plan
Ealing's cycling action plan outlines the council's
cycling objectives.
Installing cycle parking
The council has installed over 1000 Sheffield Stands –
where you can securely lock your bike – in hundreds of locations
around the borough. We are working with operators to provide
more stands within tube and rail stations and on nearby pavements.
An additional 60-100 new stands will be installed in 2008/09
Improving on-road cycling conditions
The council has cut speed limits to 30mph or less to make
Ealing's roads safer for cyclists and pedestrians. Numerous cycle
routes have been created - some with cycle lanes and others on
quiet back streets - making it easier to avoid major roads.
Cyclists are already exempt from many one-way streets and road
closures in the borough. Additional routes and exemptions will be
implemented as funds become available.
Marketing Cycling
The
Marketing Cycling report (pdf) outlines the
projects in our Direct Support for Cycling Programme in Ealing for
2006/07.
Upgrading off-road routes
The council is looking at footpaths in the borough, including
canal towpaths, to assess their suitability for cycle routes.
Suitable paths will be upgraded to improve cycling conditions as
funds become available. Cycling in parks is permitted 'with
reasonable excuse' following a recent bye-law amendment.
Pedestrians must always be given priority on off-road routes and in
parks. The council is also working to eliminate barriers that
require cyclists to dismount or lift their bike.
