What are the regulations for temporary or special structures?
Temporary structures must be lit, safe, not causing an obstruction and authorised. There should also be adequate insurance. Details will be discussed upon receipt of application.

Can a road be closed while I carry out building work?

Do I need permission to place scaffolding or hoarding on the footpath?
Yes. Contact Ealing Customer Services on (020) 8825 6000 to apply for a temporary structure.

How do I get a scaffolding/hoarding permit and what are the charges?
Contact Ealing Customer Services on (020) 8825 6000 to request an application form. The cost of the licence is dependant on the size, this will be advised after an inspector visits the site.

Do I need a licence to put up hoarding and scaffolding?
Yes. Any structure that is on the public highway needs authorisation.

How long are scaffolding/hoarding licences valid for?
The officer will discuss the needs of the licence with the applicant and agree on a suitable period of time.

Do I need a licence to put a crane/JCB on the road?
Yes. You will need to contact Ealing Customer Services on (020) 8825 6000 to request an application form.

Is scaffolding/hoarding allowed on the pavement?
Yes, if agreed with the environmental services officer.

Are there any hoarding/scaffolding requirements?
Yes. Hoarding and scaffolding must be authorised, lit, safe, not causing an obstruction, and insurance is required.
