Skip licences

Skip licences are required for permission to place a skip on the public highway. A licence is not required if the skip is located on private land (eg garden).

The council charges £20 for a skip licence, which is valid for one month from the issue date. If you need a permit for longer than a month you must re-apply.
Regulations:

all skips on the public highway must be lit at night or you will be prosecuted. There is an out of court settlement of £80 (after 14 days it goes up to £100)
skips larger than 2 yards wide and 12 yards long require an inspector to visit the site to ensure the area is safe
a maximum of two skips are allowed on site at any one time
the council has the right to refuse skip licence applications on certain restricted roads (word) and locations where skips may cause on obstruction eg restricted parking areas and narrow roads
skip companies cannot cross the footpath to deliver skips. The skip must be lifted over the footpath from a loading device. If the public highway is damaged when transporting the skip, you will be charged for repairs

How to apply for a skip licence
To apply for a skip licence complete the skip permit application form (word). Please print the form, complete it and return it to: Ealing Customer Services. If your licence is granted we will send you a paper copy.

Skip licenses are normally processed within 48 hours.

Controlled parking zones
If a skip is required within a controlled parking zone (CPZ) an additional charge of £10 will need to be paid per skip. The payment should be sent with the skip permit application form. An additional £10 per skip will also need to be paid each time a skip permit is renewed.

Reporting an illegal skip
Skips that do not have a licence or breach the licence regulations should be reported to Ealing Customer Services.

Skip hire
The council no longer provides skips for hire. Skips must be hired from an authorised skip company (word).
