General
Do I have to pay for the collection of clinical waste?

Household collections are free.  If a business needs a collection they need to sign a contract for which they will be charged.  The current charge is £3.14 plus VAT per bag.

What can I put into my yellow bag?
All medical waste including needles in suitable boxes, bandages, swabs, nappies, incontinence pads, empty dialysis bags, or any other materials that may have been contaminated with bodily fluids. No bags of fluids or faeces can go in the bags.

Where can I order more yellow bags?
To order more bags from a domestic residence, contact Ealing Customer Services on (020) 8825 6000, and they will place the order with the contractor. 

Commercial customers who want to increase the number of yellow bags should also contact Ealing Customer Services, so an amended contract can be made. 

What do I do about clinical waste that has been dumped? (eg. needles, syringes)
Report it to Ealing Customer Services on (020) 8825 6000.  A special collection crew can be sent out to remove it as soon as possible.

Household waste
How can I dispose of clinical waste safely from my home? 
All needles must be in a container.  Alternatively, you can use a sharp's box, which you can get from the doctor/hospital. This can be taken back to the doctor for disposal. All other types of waste need to be placed in a yellow sack and tied up securely and left at the agreed point.

Do you collect needles on a weekly basis?
No.  Domestic customers who want to dispose of just needles will need to take them back to their doctors. 

How do I dispose of my used syringes, needles or lancets?
Allneedles must be in a container.  Alternatively, you can use a sharp's box, which you can get from the doctor/hospital. This can be taken back to the doctor for disposal. All other types of waste need to be placed in a yellow sack and tied up securely and left at the agreed point.

How do I cancel a clinical waste collection service?
Telephone Ealing Customer Services on (020) 8825 6000, so we can advise the contractor.

Where can I leave my sacks if I am disabled?
You will need to arrange for the bags to be placed outside your property by a home help or relative, as the operatives are not allowed to enter properties.

When is my collection day?
You will be advised by the collection crew.

How long will it be before my clinical waste is collected?
Your first collection should be within seven days, and then weekly collections will take place.

What should I do if my clinical waste is not collected?
You need to telephone Ealing Customer Services on (020) 8825 6000.  If there is a problem, someone will ring you back.   

Can I get rid of clinical waste with the normal household rubbish?
No. It is illegal to dispose of clinical waste in domestic rubbish. This could be very dangerous.

How do I set up a clinical-waste trade agreement?
Contact Ealing Customer Service on (020) 8825 6000, who will take your name, address, contact number and the type of medical waste. This needs to be entered onto the system so it can be referred to contractor. The contractor will then make an initial visit within seven days. They will deliver a yellow sack, and confirm which day they will visit each week.

When will my clinical waste be collected and who by?
The contractor will advise you of the collection day on their first visit. This is a special two-man crew who only collect medical waste.

Where do I put my yellow bag on collection day?
It will need to be available at the front or at an agreed place by 7am on collection day.

Do you collect renal dialysis equipment?
Yes.  Empty bags are ok. They must be disposed of in the yellow bag and tied securely.
