General
What colour sacks can I put my rubbish in?
Refuse should be disposed of in black bags. Do not put rubbish in carrier bags – crews will only pick up black bags.

Who decided Ealing Council should stop providing black bags?
Councillors made the decision, as part of a cost saving exercise. Reasons for discontinuing this service include:

We hope that when people have to pay for their black sacks, they may think twice about the alternatives, like recycling.

Why can I only use black bags?
Ealing collects domestic, commercial and clinical waste. Different colour bags identify different types of waste and ensure crews can collect and dispose of waste safely and correctly. Residential waste will only be collected in black bags.

Where should I leave my rubbish?
Put it out near the front of your property (not on the pavement or grass verge) to avoid hazards to pedestrians.

Where can I leave my rubbish if I don't have a front garden?
You can leave refuse on the pavement in the late evening, the night before collection only. It is not permitted to leave rubbish on the pavement at any other time.

There is a charge for this service if the collection is not on the public highway. Contact Janet Pearman on telephone: (020) 7332 3433 or email: janet.pearman@corpoflondon.gov.uk for a quote.

Rubbish bins
Can my rubbish be collected straight from my bin?
No. You need to use a refuse sack in the bin and tie it just before collection. The current refuse contract does not provide for rubbish to be collected directly from domestic bins.

Is Ealing Council going to provide wheelie bins in the future?
In the ‘How to bin it’ consultation we promised to listen to and abide by the majority view in each area regarding wheelie bins. Only homes in the wheelie bin area (link) will be given a free council wheelie bin.

Rubbish in my wheelie bin hasn't been collected. Why?
If you do not live in the wheelie bin area, the crew are unable to take bags out of privately purchased (non-LBE) wheelie bins. To have this rubbish collected, you will need to take the bags out and place them at the side of the container on collection day. It is against health and safety regulations for the refuse collectors to manually lift the bags out of the container in case of injury. The crew will take tied refuse bags from a normal household bin.

How do I purchase a large refuse container for my premises?
Containers need to be purchased by owners/ management agents of the premises. The only bins that can be purchased from the council are the large 1100 litre ones that six properties share. The site would have to be checked before an order is placed; at present the cost is £338.15 (inclusive of VAT and delivery). This is a one-off payment, once the bin is purchased it will be collected free of charge.
